Care for Your Jewelry
Here are some tips we recommend for caring for your Barbela jewelry:
- Ultrasonic Cleaners – we advise you use these cleaners with caution - while these machines are readily available, you should be aware not all gems and jewelry can be cleaned safely in it. We do not recommend using an Ultrasonic Cleaner with any of our pearl pieces, our colored stones such as tanzanite, iolite, topaz, and others.
- Keep your Jewelry Away from Chemicals - We recommend removing your fine jewelry before diving into a chlorinated swimming pool or before using household cleaners. Many of these cleaners contain ammonia, which can be too harsh for delicate gems or jewelry. Be warned that everyday substances like hairspray, lotion, perfume, or other cosmetics can contain chemicals that may damage the surface of your pearls and other delicate or porous gems.
- Safest Cleaning Method - If you decide to clean your piece of jewelry at home, here is what we recommend. Mix a solution of warm water and mild dish soap in a small bowl or glass. We recommend you clean your jewelry in a small bowl or a glass rather than cleaning your piece in a sink because stones do sometimes get loose, and you don’t want to possibly lose a stone down the drain. Submerge the jewelry in the solution and, using a soft toothbrush, gently brush the jewelry to get rid of any dirt and/or dust. Once you’ve finished brushing it, use another bowl or glass filled with water to rinse your jewelry and remove cleaning solutions.
